For the 10th year in a row, Nudgestock returned to attract an audience of marketers and those interested in the wide range of speakers.
The world’s biggest behavioural science festival streamed live for 10-hours straight on June 10th of this year. The event was organised by Ogilvy UK and hosted by the omnipresent Rory Sutherland. This year the event was sponsored by Attuned and featured 18 global authorities talking about their relevant subject areas.
The hot topics this year spanned sustainability and diversity to motivation and leadership. The event was free to attend and regularly attracts well over 40,000 online attendees!
The Key Themes for Nudgestock #10
The event this year has three key themes at the centre of the online presentation.
During a period of extreme political upheaval and economic uncertainty, the themes of; sustainability, misinformation, and anti-trends seem more relevant than ever. The 10-hour event explored these through the vector of consumer behavioural traits that define the new order of world brands and organisations in 2022.
Some of the highly anticipated speakers this year were:
- Google’s Maya Shankar, Senior Director of Behavioral Economics and former Senior Advisor to Barack Obama, Founder and Chair of the White House Behavioural Science Team, talking about how behavioral science defines government and public policy.
- Goldsmith’s top lecturer and VR authority Sylvia Pan talking about the potential of VR and consumer sociability.
- Dan Pink, behavioural science giant, author of five New York Times bestsellers, and White House speechwriter, discussing the secret to long-term motivation.
- Katy Milkman, theAmerican economist most famous for her work on vaccine incentives and the host of Charles Schwab’s popular behavioural economics podcast Choiceology.
- Paco Underhill, the world-leading environmental psychologist and best-selling author discussing Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping.
- Matthew Syed, top author and highly acclaimed speaker, explains the psychological nuances of the high-performance mindset and how companies can unlock untapped potential in individuals and teams to drive innovation.
- Casey Wahl, the founder and CEO of Attuned, speaking about scaling past Dunbar’s Number, evolution, and incentive economics with nudges to solve miscommunication at scale.
Why is Nudgestock so successful?
Nudgestock pushes C-suite marketeers to learn how to think like behavioural scientists through the discussion of counterintuitive ideas and real-world case studies. From here discussion is opened, debate encouraged, and conflict of ideas celebrated by the some of the world’s boldest minds.
Nudgestock 2022 tackled how rethinking sustainability and diversity can promote balance, how misinformation and polarisation is warping our societies, and how behavioural science can track the changing nature of consumerism.
The host of the event, Rory Sutherland, explains succinctly –
“If you base your business success on technological gizmos then you have something that will give you a competitive advantage for 18 months to two years. On the other hand, if your brand rests on a solid understand of unchanging psychological truths, then what you have is a completely enduring competitive advantage.”
Niccolo’s Nudgestock 2022 Picks
- THE POWER OF REGRET: HOW LOOKING BACKWARD MOVES US FORWARD.
The author of five New York Times bestsellers, Dan Pink, spoke about how regret is possible the most misunderstood and transformative emotion. By drawing on 60+ years of science and a collection of over 20,000 regrets from over 109 countries he explains how to harness regrets to make better decisions, solve problems efficiently and effectively, and how it can be used to ultimately find a greater meaning in life.
- TOWARDS A SENSEMAKING GENOME: WHY WE NEED TO DECODE OUR FELLOW HUMANS FIRST BEFORE TRYING TO CHANGE THEIR BEHAVIOURS
The President of the Ogilvy Centre for Behavioural Science talks about the limitation of nudging and how as we learn more about how differently individuals make sense of the world, we can begin to see which nudges may work more or less effectively depending on individual ‘wiring’. An argument is made that we need to do more to ‘decode the sensemaking genome’ in order to determine the best framing, word choice, and tonality to resonate with audiences.
- SUSTAINABILITY COMMUNICATIONS NEED TO GET REAL
An incredibly important presentation on sustainability in practice. Despite the growing conversation around the topic, many environmental issues continue to worsen. Why? Communication is the answer here, with a presentation on why and how to get real about it.
